stella, spotted on grand & eldridge in NYC
We noticed Stella in the Lower East Side and stopped her to chat about finding community, Maggie Cheung, and her love of table tennis. Read on for a glimpse into the life of this month’s passerby.
where are you coming from, and where are you headed?
I'm headed to this doner place around the corner because I ordered TooGoodToGo, which is an app where you can buy leftovers from restaurants. And I've been doing that a lot recently, which is kind of bad because I haven't been focused as much on cooking, but it's convenient and helps with food waste. I actually just came from this ping-pong event. That’s where the shirt I'm wearing is from. It's Little Tokyo Table Tennis, which is based in Los Angeles. Every Tuesday from 6 pm to 9 pm, they have a really great community space where people play ping-pong. This is their first time coming to New York to do a pop-up, which was at Bungee Space.
how long have you been playing table tennis?
I started going to Little Tokyo Table Tennis when I was living in L.A. last year, and it was only once a week, but it was more of a social space. When I came to New York, I went a few times in June, July, and August. And now I try to go every week at Seward Park in Chinatown. And it's just a really great intergenerational space with kids and older folks. Everyone just comes together and plays.
